REFLECTION TASK 1A

Hi everybody!

My name is Fatma, I’m from Antalya, I was born in 20 July 1995, in Antalya.  I’m a first degree  student in  Faculty of Language Education department at METU. This is my second year in METU. I was at preparatory  school last year and it was a big chance for me to both to adopt to the campus life and to develop myself academically. I’ve graduated from Türkler I.M.K.B. Anatolia Teacher Training High School in Alanya. Our class was the least populated one throughout its history, we’re only seven! It was both a advantage and disadvantage for us. We had to participate in each lesson  actively unlike the others classes, but in case of any unwillingness towards to any lesson, it was very easy to break up it, because it was also easy to constitute a majority. I stayed at dormitory during my high school time. We made a lot of increadible memories along these years both good and bad, but I think they all made me more experienced and conscient person in interpersonal relations. Besides these, I also want to talk about my hobbies, or rather than hobbies, the things I enjoy doing; because there is nothing regarded as hobby that I do continuously . I like swimming or any other activities relateted to sea, but it’s impossible in Ankara to do it. However, last year, I had a chance to have a similar experience, I went to Blue Lake with my friends and rode paddle boat. On the other hand, in the past, I was in marching band for 6 years both in primary school and high school. In addition, I was also in folklore group in primary school for 2 years.

4) The Aging Population

The number of men and women in the US aged 60 or over still in work has been rising for more than a decade. Economists have given a number of reasons for this trend. First, since 1985, the US economy has been expanding so there has been an inreased demand for labour,. At the same time, the cost of some services, such as health care, has increased so workers need to earn more money in later life. In addition, changes in social securety benefits and rules have had a considerable effect on labour patterns. First, in 1977 and 1983 changes to the Social Security Act raised the full-benefit age from 65 to 67 and introduce other changes that make delaying retirement more attravtive. Then, in 1986 the Age Discrimination Act ended cumposary retirement for all workers, allowing them to work later in life. Changes to pension laws have encouraged workers to stay in employment longer, as this gives them more chances of a larger pension when they retire.

SOME EXERCISES FROM THE BOOK

       EXERCISE 2

        Hi everyone,
I'm having problems getting a new phone connection here, so instead of sending e-mails, I actually sit down to write a letter.
I imagine you will be suprised to get this as I've never been much of letter-writer. I'm putting the return address in big letters at the top, because to tell you the truth I've began to feel quite lonely here.
Well, perhaps I don't mean that exactly. There are plenty of people here for me to talk to. In fact, I'm settling in to the student life quite well, but I don't really know anyone yet. I've got a room in a house a long way from the collage, and seem to spend a long time on the bus. A lot of students are cycling , so I'm trying to find a cheap bike, and so I'm also thinking of moving nearer to collage when I can find somewhere. Sorry-an interruption, someone's knocking at the door. More later. Later. One of the girls downstairs is having a party, and I'm invited. And the phone line has been fixed, so I expect you'll get an e-mail from me very soon! In fact, I'm considering tearing up this letter, so just ignore everything I've said...

     EXERCISE 3

EUROPEAN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT RATES FAIL TO MEET TARGETS

Although the number of deaths caused in trafic accidents in the EU ia going down , experts are still trying to find ways of reducing the number throughout the UE to around 25.000 fatalities per year by 2010. Trafic safeyt is improving , but experts believe that achieveing the 2010 goal will prove difficult. Recent statis show that in 2005, in the EU 41.600 people were killed in the road accidents. Although progress has been made most experts agree that this figure will have fallen to only around 32.000 by 2010 which means that the EU target will be missed by about 7.000. On the other hand, as the amount of trafic is increasing, it is possible to argue that the situation is not as bad as it looks. However, one interprets the statics It remains true that as the time goes on. It's  becoming harder and harder to reduce the figures, especially since accident-reduction schemes costs a lot of money. Many countries have tried and failed to reduce the number of accidents, and in the UE, as whole, only Sweden's pursuing the the goal of zero accidents. Accident reduction is more difficult in building new roads and in introducing safety measures at a fast enough rate. To complicate matters, most new members have very little expeerience in dealing with the emands of heavy traffic. Experts suggest that any safety programme must also set about changing the way drivers behave. Despite what people often say it seems to be younger generation that causes most accidents. In line with this research, many countries are introducing tougher driving tests, and are concentrating on the main causes of accidents: speed, reckless overtaking, alchol and over concidence.

The earliest known zoo was the Park of Intelligence in the province of Hunan. It was started by a Chinese ruler about 1150 B.C. Today zoo facilities are limited and zookeepers cannot keep every animal on display year-round. In the winter in colder climates, most birds must be bought indoors, but zookeepers cannot always keep each bird on view for the public. Many visitors are suprised to see that some animals remain outside all year. Penguins, polar bears and timber wolves are happy outdoors in wintertime. Some animals are always indoors in northern areas; reptiles and small desert animals always have indoor displays. Zookepers must provide indoor shelters for large animals such as elephants. How large those shelters must be! Today zoologists understand much more about animal behavior and zoos are being designed that are similar to the animals' natural habitats. Viewers can closely observe animals at animal parks, animals roam free. Zoo kitchens keep a wide variety of foods, and these foods are used to prepare meals that meet animals' nutritional needs. Zoos contribute to wildlife conservation, and they nurture species that are in danger of becoming extinct.
